Magic Attack Bug
I haven't seen this bug listed anywhere, so I was wondering if anyone else had discovered it, and if so, if they remembered how to trigger it. There's a bug in the Sega CD Lunar SS that makes Magic for Alex into an attack, that is, instead of taking away all your attack chances, it counts as 1 attack, and Alex will continue using the rest of his attacks until they're exhausted. So for instance, if Alex has 2 for # of attacks, and casts a heal spell, he will then attack once more.
I used to always use this when I played the game on my Sega CD. I'm sure it's possible on emulation as well. I think it's done with the harp somehow at the beginning of the game, but I can't remember exactly how. You can't see if you're succesful obviously until you get Magic in Meribia.
The drawback to the bug is that the boss in the Magic Trial Cave becomes harder, since you will always be close to it. The solution to this is simply to equip the crossbow, and position yourself intelligently.
There's also a bug where if all your characters are on Level 99, you can fight Ghaleon's final form 1v1 with Alex at the end of the game, however, the game will just hang after you beat him. I've also been unable to repeat this bug, and it could be that it's not actually triggerable usually and just randomly happened.
I'm hoping someone sees this and can either tell me about the bug, or atleast to see if there is any interest in it. The game is old and I don't know how many fans are left these days...I just stumbled onto this site while searching for the Lemina Bug in Lunar 2. I'm replaying these games again...

I think I remember hearing something about this a long time ago, back on the LUNAR-L List. (*sigh* memories...) Apparently, there are also bugs where Nall attacks when certain characters reach a high level, or something to do with one of Kyle's spells. It's been so long that I vaguely remember the exact details. I'm sure someone here can recollect it.
Oh my favorite little trick in SS, the magic attack thing is related to the command of AI at the bottom of each character in the menu, turning it on would enable them to attack after using a magic, providing they had the number of attacks to use it. ^_^ But yea, make sure AI is on and it'll work.
PS. For the Magic Trial Cave, you can turn it off.

As soon as I read this word by word, it was like someone flicked a switch and now I remember it. Wow, thanks for explaining that. It's wierd how you can forget something you know so well.

I'm actually surprised not many others noticed, but it makes Ghaleon so easy to beat at the final fight, like Kiz, if your 99, and you have the AI on for Alex, and you do holy light (500) then attack 3-4 times (250 apiece I think) thats well over 1000 hp that single attack. Its really fun...Gah I'm going to have to play TSS again, D you all!

Well, it's a great game, so you're welcome
Thanks, I'm glad I found this board! It's good to see other fans for the Sega CD versions of the games.

Well, I use AI with Dragon Song because there's not much of a range in your options. Attack, or, well, Attack?
Otherwise I never use it. I accidentally hit it in Eternal Blue and before you know it, I've wasted 200MP casting Magic Shield, Comet Tail, Tranquil Litany, and Dark Sword when I was facing only 2 dung beetles. KF

This AI was differant for TSS, you still commanded your character, like if I told Alex to holy light, he would then use the rest of his attacks, to...attack, he'd never use anything else. But as far as the overall AI system, didn't use it in EB or TSS, Don't like the silly computer chooseing crap decisions for me
Here's a movie clip demonstrating it for those curious enough:

Enjoy!

As far as the AI goes I had a simmilar experience to Kizyr's... and thus never on purpose have I ever used it again. Though I am a bit lost does this work with the emulated versions of the game? Sorry if that's been answered, I didn't catch it.

Yes it does. Actually my movie was a recording of TSS running in Gens. The reason why it still works is that I'm pretty sure it's just a designed game mechanic rather than a bug. However, I am not sure why they put it in as an option; there's no doubting it's superior for chracters like Alex and Kyle.
Yet one more way you can make your characters overpowered in TSS!

Ah I see! Just checking... I suppose I could have picked up on the video being an emulator huh?

There is an update I found to this after playing the Japanese TSS...
The reason why this is the case is because in the old programming, setting the AI options a certain way would let Alex (or anyone else with more than 1 attack) continue to attack after his one magic spell was up. In the English version, this was removed for manual commands, but it still goes into effect if you pick AI commands.
I think WD noticed that letting someone get off a powerful spell and 2-3 attacks in made them way too powerful, particularly for Alex and Kyle. And you ran into the irritating moment of Jessica healing everyone, then running up to attack. So they corrected that in the regular programming, but missed the section of code that related to AI. KF

Silver Phoenix wrote:Haha, same here Alun. I never trust that using AI will be effective without wasting unnecessary magic or items. I've made the mistake of using AI by accident in the past and nearly had characters killed. I almost chose AI while playing Dragon Song last night and nearly had a heart attack.
The reason that i don't use it is because it doesn't feel like you're really PLAYING the game.
Wow now I know why the keep ataking after a spell o0Siazair wrote:Oh my favorite little trick in SS, the magic attack thing is related to the command of AI at the bottom of each character in the menu, turning it on would enable them to attack after using a magic, providing they had the number of attacks to use it. ^_^ But yea, make sure AI is on and it'll work.
