I know this feeling but it happened to me a decade ago. Or even longer! I still enjoy 80s and 90s stuff with little regard for sketchiness or trashiness, but haven't connected with very much since then. I've been on a kick for some of my old favs lately though - namely the obscure, heavy-ish magical girl show Nurse Angel Ririka SOS and the little-known dark fantasy magical girl video series Shamanic Princess.

Shamanic princess is really good, especially the character design. Late 80's/90's was the height of artsy anime. Compared to todays stuff, there was so much more color contrast, shading/lighting, and thick dark lines, all of which I like. That's not to say everything today is bad, but I do find the anime art today is on average more flat (less contrast. thin lines.) If one hates fanservice, just watch Hayao Miyazaki's works. They're artistic but he hates fanservice. Also gaming is just as guilty of that too, I don't mind it either way.

As for me, A LOT. Favorite Genres are Sci-fi, Fantasy, and Mindscrew. Bonus if there are environmentalist themes. Most recently thing I finished was Sarazanmai, by Kunihiko Ikuhara (Utena/Penguindrum/Yurikuma.) I thought Yurikuma suffered from having a dislikable protagonist, but Sarazanmai was on par with Utena and Penguindrum. I also recently watched That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, which was hilarious.

It's weird isn't it? Something you loved and cherished so much and couldn't see a future without and suddenly the majority of animes....You can't make time for...It's weird for me at least
