Sales numbers for Lunar games?
So I've been wondering for some time how much the Lunar games actualy sold.
The only numbers/info I found:
Lunar Dragon Song; 100k NA
Lunar SSSC (PS); 60k Japan, ~220-250k NA
Lunar SSSC (Saturn); 210k Japan
Lunar SSS (Saturn); 230k Japan
Lunar 2 EB (Saturn); 120k Japan
Lunar TSS (Mega CD); ~100k Japan (also: The game remains the best-selling Mega CD title of all time in Japan, and second highest selling worldwide behind Sonic the Hedgehog CD.)
Lunar EB; (The game would go on to sell fewer copies than its predecessor, Lunar: The Silver Star, yet still became the second-highest selling Sega-CD game in Japan and third highest selling worldwide.)
Couldn't find anything about Lunar Legend, Lunar 2 EBC (PS), Walking School or Magical School.
Numbers are from VGChartz, Wikipedia (yea I know, the most reliable source ever) and IGN.
I apologize in advance if there is another thread like that, did a quick search but nothing came up.

I highly doubt Lunar DS sold 100K in NA. If it did, we'd have a sequel by now.

This is where I got the numbers from. The site often overtracks/undertracks unpopular games' legs though.

Nobi, tell me you're not forgetting the distinction between developer and localizer? If Genesis tanked in Japan, they're highly unlikely to care how it did in NA. Ubi can't localize what doesn't exist.

Re: Sales numbers for Lunar games?
Oh no, I'm well aware of that. I was under the impression that Ubi had funded a lot of DS in the first place, so I imagined that they wouldn't care that it tanked in Japan so long as it was profitable in the US. If it was profitable in the US I'd imagine they'd want to commission another one?

Re: Sales numbers for Lunar games?
Yeah, there were rumors that Ubi funded Lunar DS, though I don't think it was proven. If those sales charts are accurate, DS had some unique sales compared to most other games. It had fairly underwhelming sales to start with, but remained steady selling 500-1250 for a LONG time. 100k probably isn't bad, actually. I never realized it kept selling that many copies for so long. That's actually somewhat good news in regards to the possibility of a sequel. Now, I'd like to know what kind of sales Genesis had.

I thought Lunar DS did well when it launched... huh.
Wasn't it the only rpg on the DS when it came out?

Pretty much, yeah. That's why it was rushed.

And that rush turned out to be a huge mistake...
The translation was pretty hurried, too, so that it could claim to be the first DS RPG in North America, too. KF

Re: Sales numbers for Lunar games?
It totally wasn't worth it either. If they would have spent more time on the game and fixed certain disastrous elements DS could have been a great game.
Re: Sales numbers for Lunar games?
Does anyone know if Lunar Genesis (Dragon Song) is the only Lunar game that was released in Europe?

Yes, as far as I know. I've seen a bootleg PAL of SSSC, but there was no official release.

I thought Lunar Legend was released in Europe? I know none of WD's versions made it there.

Re: Sales numbers for Lunar games?
If it was, I'm pretty sure there were no changes made to it (which is what I care about, not sales figures, of course). I think I saw it being sold by UK eBay sellers, but that doesn't mean much in this context.

Re: Sales numbers for Lunar games?
Hmmm thats some pretty interesting news about those sales figures. If Lunar was that big in japan, then why no 3rd Lunar(cries) yet. I really hope those decent Lunar DS sales mean something good though.

Re: Sales numbers for Lunar games?
VGChartz has a reputation for giving unreliable numbers, but at the very least the US numbers for SSSC look to be about right.
Re: Sales numbers for Lunar games?
Yea I know. Especialy about games that don't really sell much. But at least you can get some kind of estimates.
