Re: Idea: Rerelease SSH on Steam for the PC
I'd like a port of the original SSSC too, but the original SSSC is in copyright purgatory and the iOS port is pretty damn buggy. Is there something more complicated to this copyright situation than "the license held by Working Designs reverted back to Game Arts, who can award licenses on those...

My pleasure. Looks like you have a nice find there.
Oh, it's pretty typical. "The demo version ends here. Please enjoy the continuation in the final product." Then comes the line in English.jay_are wrote:Now I wonder what the "Thank you for playing" screen says.

Re: Meanwhile, playing Dragon Quest V
Video games begin and end with Dragon Quest. I'm playing DQIV right now, and it's like I've found the missing link. It's kind of mind boggling how many of the games I enjoyed back in the day take their queues from it.

The disk says that the demo was intended for use at retail stores, which probably makes it pretty rare.

Anybody seen this wildly beautiful movie?
I saw it a couple days ago and loved it. I also feel like the criticisms of it (the story isn't original enough) are the sort of thing Lunar fans would scoff at. At least, I know I scoffed.

Looked this guy up on Wikipedia just now, and I bring you the following trivia: Kayumi was the Japanese dub voice of Frank Sinatra, Donald Sutherland, and Christopher Lee.
Also, he dubbed over Ian McKellen in all the X-Men films -- including the one this year.

Re: The Great Narratological Lunar 2 Project
Do you think the localizations/translations will interfere with my understanding of the original intent? The translation that underlies the localization is sound work that represents the plot well, but certain aspects of the game were altered. I've made a few observations on the subject in terms of...

Does anybody have the MAGIUS sourcebook? I'm pretty sure you'd need it to properly use the Lunar module.

Re: The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers
Looking through the contents listed at HG101, the book devotes a lot of time to companies that spun off from Nihon Falcom, particularly Game Arts and Quintet...two companies I always want to know more about. If this book has insight into whatever became of the Quintet staff, that's practically worth...

Gross? Seriously??? Maybe all caps would discourage the uninitiated from playing the game at this point, I don't know. I still agree with you that the author's point seems very arbitrary. After all, two can play at Mr. Schreier's game here, like so: Did you hear the MIDI music in the Playstation ve...

Re: The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers
Wow, this is very interesting! Not easy to read, but what I can read makes me want to buy this book. The Kouji Yokota they're interviewing did monster graphics on L:EB (as the spread would suggest). And look down there in bottom of the left page where Yokota theorizes about what became of Lunar 3 in...

Anybody ever seen these Mahou Gakuen Lunar block stamps before? It's a first for me, courtesy of a listing on Y!JA (that as of this writing is up for grabs.) The listing says they were produced by Movic. http://im8-a.mbokimg.dena.ne.jp/3/7/339/366986339.1.jpg http://page17.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/au...

Re: I'm glad we aren't getting Lunar 3!
The character designs, character personalities, the optimistic plots, and lighthearted humor that make up SSS and EB and are all very early 90s. The problem is that it's no longer the early 90s, and things have changed a lot. There's still a market for all of these elements, excepting possibly the ...

I've been wanting those too, but the good stuff is probably within the program for the daifugo game. I don't own it myself so I can't verify this, but it seems that as far as the All the Lunar art assets are concerned, the low-hanging fruit has already been plucked. If nothing else, we could isolate...

Both Nall and Ruby are shown to have at least some control over their physical forms once they come into their full powers. I imagine all the dragons could potentially assume human form if they wanted, but only Nall had the interest.

I've spent a lot of time investigating this particular translation. In terms of reasonability, where does this fit -- replacing the phrase "girl who has the power of magic" with "magitek-riding Imperial witch"? And your skepticism about the fan-retranslation is well founded, I'd ...

Perhaps we can ask Noriyuki Iwadare why he decided to go a different direction from the original music on the Sega CD to the music found in the remake. Iwadare is only one of the 4 people who wrote the TSS soundtrack. Another of those 4 guys, Yoshiaki Kubodera, also contributed to Lunar DS. I did s...
