Ponyo!

Post by Guild_Premier_Ghaleon »

So, Hayao Miyazaki has made a new flick, and I got to go see it with a handful of friends yesterday... ... ... It was adorable. :P Definitely a film directed more towards children as opposed to Mononoke, but the story was cute and it was overall an excellent watch. I'd give it an 8/10 or so. Stunning graphical work, awesome characters, and a surprisingly good dub cast. The only thing that bothered me is this... All this crazy crap is happening and these two five year old's set out on their adventure... And NO adults are even remotely concerned. "Hey everyone! Ponyo and I are going to set sail in this rickety boat on the tempestuous sea filled with all sorts of peril to find my mother!" You would think someone would have said, "Errr... I'll go with you..." But nope. They were totally fine sending the children off to their potential doom. :P But, I found this more amusing than anything. Good flick.
"Perhaps you should demonstrate the power which gives you such confidence. Then we shall see who is fit to be supreme ruler, and who... is dead!"

I saw it. I wasn't too happy with the dub, and I anxiously await the dvd, but the rest was wonderful. Really great film otherwise.

I can't STAND Disney dubs of Miyazaki films.
(And this is coming from an avid voice over/dub fangirl.)

Sorry, but Mini Miley Cyrus and Junior Jonas Brother as the leads?
Gag me with a spoon.

*Shudders* Not for me. Couldn't stand Daveigh Chase's big screaming mouth as Chihiro. Jason Marsden is quite a popular voice actor these days, but I thought he sounded too old for Haku. I preferred their Japanese counterparts. Maybe I'm just too picky. :P

I used it as a stoner movie and in that state, I'd rather not mess with subtitles. The voices didn't bother me with that one.
