Nintendo has announced that it will announce "the 3DS."

Nintendo Co., Ltd.(Minami-ward of Kyoto-city, President Satoru Iwata) will launch “N intendo 3D S”(temp) during the fiscal year ending March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.

“Nintendo 3DS”(temp) is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed “Nintendo DS series”, whose cumulative consolidated sales from Nintendo amounted to 125million units as of the end of December 2009, and will include backward compatibility so that the software for Nintendo DS series, including the ones for Nintendo DSi, can also be enjoyed.

We are planning to announce additional details at E3 show, which is scheduled to be held from June 15, 2010 at Los Angeles in the U.S.

And of course, rumor is Sony will announce a PSP2 soon. Should be an interesting year...

I'm a sucker for Nintendo handhelds. I resisted getting a DSi, but my willpower isn't strong enough to resist this. Guess I need to start saving my monies.

Hm. It's too close to April for me to believe this without further details. I've seen the news on several forums now, but still...it's just too weird and too close to April.

Besides, didn't Nintendo try this, without much success, with the Virtual Boy?

To think part of the reason why I'm low on money is because I broke down and bought a DSi...I should have waited. =_=;

Oh well. We'll see how this new hand-held plays out. ^^;

What? But I don't even have a DS-Lite yet. Slow down on the handhelds Nintendo, sheesh. And I'm gonna go ahead and guess the fifth generation Pokemon game will probably be a 3DS game...

The DS is my favorite portable system ever, so I'm genuinely curious if 3D will enhance or detract. At least it's BC.

Aside from the Virtual Boy, Nintendo's handhelds are very successful, and I don't think they would use the DS brand if thought it could flop.
