Mamma Mia! A production of Lunar Sprites inc.
I watched the movie Mamma Mia! and I must say I rather enjoyed it (I'm a sucker for musicals and I already love ABBA). Well, since I've made fun of GhaleonOne being a huge ABBA fan (since he represents Ghaleon, who according the the WD translation loves ABBA a lot) I figure I would keep poking fun at everything. Expect more ABBA related jokes =P.
The dvd cover I tried my best to base it on (note I was close but no cigars ).

I like it. Any chance for a higher-resolution version?

Cute review!
Sorry, no higher resolution. =/ Not entirely sure how I could blow it up in size without making it look fugly and pixelated.

Thanks, and I understand. I take it you made it at the source resolution of the sprites, etc.?phyco126 wrote:Cute review!

Yup, I sure did. All sizes are the same size as the sprites, same with the background. I lopped the sides off to make it more DVDish.

Nice job phyco126! I always enjoy seeing what you do with these! I never saw the movie though. My boyfriend wanted to see it till he found out it was a musical. I'm not a fan of them myself and I heard the movie wasn't that good. I would see it live if I was able. ^^
What program do you use for sprites?

Re: Mamma Mia! A production of Lunar Sprites inc.
I use an emulator to take screen shots, then use MSPaint to edit each sprite out of each screen shot. It's a long task, but over time I have gotten a great deal of sprites. However, with limited sprites come limited actions that can be portrayed, so I edit them here and there to give them new faces, posses, etc.
I then throw everything together into a comic, using once again, MSPaint for everything.
Now I think I may have found a way to make a larger resolution, but it kinda distorts the details of the sprites the larger it gets, but I may attempt it here anyway.

Have you ever thought about using something more powerful than MSPaint to edit your sprites, etc.? If it's a case of not having the cash for Photoshop or anything else like that, you can always give The GIMP (which is free and almost as powerful as Photoshop in many ways, despite having a very funky interface) a spin.
FYI, I'm not saying that The GIMP is as good as Photoshop if you can get it, but if you're on a super tight budget, it's hard to beat.

I actually second that.
I used Gimp in the past, it's a great free alternative if you can't afford things like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. MSPaint just couldn't cut it with the stuff I intended to do. I became pretty good at Gimp until I got a hold of Photoshop.
Gimp was never heard from again though, after Photoshop came along. XP

Actually, I've used Photoshop briefly to edit some of the effects in the comics after I already made them but before I added dialog. The problem was the that the learning curve was just too steep and you had to do complicated stuff to do simple stuff. MSPaint works fine as it is, despite some of its limitations.

I'm a big fan of GiMP. It takes a while to learn the interface, but unless you're doing stuff professionally, there's little need for Photoshop or PaintShopPro (which is what I used to use) if you have GiMP. KF

Actually, there's a webcomic artist that shares your view about the simplicity of MS Paint, if you want to read some of his comments for inspiration, phyco. He's Paul Gadzikowski, of Arthur, King of Space and Time. (I enjoy it because I get the Arthurian references, but the comic's very amusing anyway, so I've been wanting to share it for a while.)phyco126 wrote:Actually, I've used Photoshop briefly to edit some of the effects in the comics after I already made them but before I added dialog. The most relevant information is here: http://www.arthurkingoftimeandspace.com/cast.htm. Scroll down to "How do you create a cartoon?" He also comments on it occasionally in posts under his comics. He's a little intense (someone trying to adapt the Arthurian legend this way has to be), but I can see his points.

I actually do have access to a semi-legitimate copy of Photoshop (it helps being married to a graphic designer, although it was a copy of CS2 she got back in school and we're not sure what the license status is and if we're eligible for an upgrade or not right now), but I still prefer GIMP for web graphics. I'll only bust out Photoshop for more sophisticated photo editing or other artistic doctoring.

So I looked at getting GIMP, and I totally got lost on their website. They have like, several different downloads. Which one is the one I need? Or is it one of those "Some assembly required" softwares? I HATE those.

Go to Downloads. The first section says "GIMP FOR WINDOWS".phyco126 wrote:So I looked at getting GIMP, and I totally got lost on their website. They have like, several different downloads. Which one is the one I need? Or is it one of those "Some assembly required" softwares? I HATE those.
Click the link that says:
Download GIMP 2.6.4 – Installer for Windows 2000 and above
Does that help? KF
