Lunar: Legend - Burg Sprite Sheet Demo

Post by phyco126 »

Alright, for all you sprite whores, I've been working on ripping every rippable sprite from the game for not just my comics, but for TheRadicalAusa as well. So, after weeks of slacking, hours of pain-stacking ripping (litterally, pain stacking, my poor hand, back, and neck XD ) I finally have Burg done. W00t. So it's small, but check it out. 17 full sprited characters, 4 incomplete characters (due to the game not showing the sprites at certain angles,) 5 chests, and 1 Althena's Statue. This does include Nash, Nall, Alex, Ramus, and Luna. Of course, it still doesn't have ALL of the characters in Burg, because I found out that some sprites are exactly the same for different characters. Lazy artists (j/k)

Image

So, this may have been done for my sake and to help TheRadicalAusa, but anyone who may need sprites for any reason can freely ask me for the sheet. Saved as a BMP so it's a large file, but at the same time it's the true colors and it helps with editing and cutting, so the size is worth it. All I have to say is, "Lunar: Legend, you just got PWNT!"

That is amazing Phyco... awesome job! I'd love to look closer at it, but I'd need to free up some disk-space. ^^*

Well, when I say it's a large file, I meant for dial-up users mainly. It's somewhere around 1.2MB, so it's manageable.

Phyco, I could put it up on LunarNET if you want? I'm sure some viewers would love to have these ripped for various uses.

Sure! That would be great, just as long as you leave them as BMP so the pictures and colors don't get distorted ;) Still, I think that would be great. I'm currently working on my "Lunar Legend Multimedia Project" and I'll be working on getting Saith characters throughout the rest of this week. Of course, I'll be posting here shortly about this whole project deal. :)

Oh, before I forget, what address should I send the sprites to you G1? Webmaster@Lunar-net.com?

Yeah, that's fine. Anything at lunar-net.com will work (except kizyr which goes to his personal Email account and borgan@lunar-net.com which is reserved for sarcastic replies to select Emails that are deserving)

The only problem is, I can't really see them... I think Photobucket resized them. That, and Photobucket converts bmp files into jpg, which is evil for spriters such as me. Though the ones on the site would probably be different, as in, not resized and not JPGed. Good luck ripping all of them! (I'm going to do the same for TSS, EB, SSSC, and EBC. Though, that'll have to wait until I get the TSS and EB discs, and until I get emulators for both systems.)

Unlike JPEG, GIF and PNG are lossless formats. So you might want to consider using them; both even support palletized 8-bit images.

Yeah, I'll likely convert to one of those two when I put it up.

I'll consider it, but for now I'll leave it up to G1 if he wishes to convert, since everything of mine is BMP.

Yeah, I know, trust me ;). This was just so people could at least see some version of the file, but was certainly not supposed to let people save it or anything.

Edit: I tried GIF format on a screenshot I took and it distorted the picture pretty bad, but PNG works perfect :D.

PNG-8 or PNG-24?

The sprites onscreen on the GBA are limited to 256 colors (unless the palette is changed inbetween scanlines, which is probably not the case). Assuming these are just the Burg sprites, they should convert fine to GIF or PNG-8, so maybe there's some minor color change you're introducing?

Additionally, if you're resizing the sprites at all, this will likely introduce lots of new colors.

PNG-8 and PNG-24? Oo Well, I'm saving the screen shots as BMPs then editing them into a seperate sprite sheet via MS Paint. No fancy paint programs, just the standard paint program included with Windows. Also, no resizing, as that would ruin the legitimacy IMO. These are pure un-edited sprites. So MS Paint only gives the option to just save it as a regular .png, doesn't mention anything about different kinds >>.

Still, I have only saved one screen shot as a GIF, but I haven't tried a sprite itself nor the sprite sheet. I'll actually try that, but regular PNG doesn't seem to change any of the colors.

Edit: Okay, GIF still changes colors, but PNG is just uber. Anyway, when saving a file as GIF, I get this:

Interesting. Well, when you can finally upload a BMP/PNG, I'll take a closer look.

(PNG supports both palettized images and true-color images; whereas GIF is just palettized. For GIF or PNG-8, if your image contains more than 256 colors, you *will* get color loss.)

Edit: I'm assuming MS-Paint doesn't always display that?

Wow, Haru, this is great. I plan on buying RPG Maker XP (I fell in love with it when I tried their trial version) when I get a stable income again, so I'll be trying to use those. Just awesome. ^_^

I myself won't be uploading the sprite sheets anytime soon, but when I do they will be PNG. Otherwise, if G1 wants to, I'll let him host them and stuff for the rest of the fandom community. :)

Now it only gives that warning for when I go to save it from BMP to GIF, I haven't noticed if it's always the warning to save anything as a GIF.[/quote]
