Our cat is pretty great.

Post by Jenner »

Hey you guys, I'd like to introduce you to the love of Kizyr's life.

Image

No not me, you idiots, it's the cat.

Image

Meet Prel, Prel is Kiz's step-cat. In that, I had her before we were married and now we share her together.

Image

Despite the fact that she was my cat and I saved her life she loves Kiz bestest and he is Cat Favorite.

Image

She loves her mouse.

Image

Image

Which she fetches.

Image

She is very spoiled.

Image

And quite fat, but her fatness is directly proportional to how much we love her.

Image

She is a pretty kitty.

Cat life is hard.

She is so beautiful! With 12 cats I have quite a variety of cat-colorings, but none are all grey.

A few weeks ago I brought home leftovers that included steak with lobster on it. I fed the lobster bits to Moonstone (who is also grey with green eyes, but she's a grey/white tuxedo cat), who purred with every bite. I should try bringing her sashimi sometime...

So there are these supplement treats that help with Prel's skin/fur that we have, and... she really loves them. Like, she comes dashing out of whatever hidey-place she has whenever I just shake the bag from the kitchen:

And she'll eat them right out of your hand...

What are the treat/supplements? One of my clowder is prone to dry skin and fur, although he improved after we switched everyone to wet food instead of kibble (which I highly recommend, as it makes a big difference for diabetic or potentially diabetic cats), and I keep forgetting to get something for it.

All of the cats come running when they hear a bag of treats rattle. :) Strangely enough, it's the shyest set of cats, the ones we trapped and brought in, that will eat from our hands, even the ones who won't let us pet them. The other seven cats are pretty confused by being offered a treat in a hand and will wait for it to be put down before they eat it.

Lysine supplements, or that's what it says on the side. Honestly I don't know much about it (Jenner's the one who went to the vet and picked it up) so I'm afraid I can't give more information. Also, if I get out the bag to look at it, Prel is gonna come and hound me until I give her some treats.
Alunissage wrote:One of my clowder is prone to dry skin and fur,
I learned a new group noun!

Anyway, Jenner swears Prel's fur is much softer/shinier after the treats, but I don't really notice any difference myself -- I'm sure she's right, just I don't notice slowly-changing things like that. Also, Prel will lick Jenner's fingers out of habit (it has to do with how she rehabilitated her after rescuing her). But she never did for me until I started feeding her these treats. KF

I wonder what's in those Lysine supplements, because our kitty goes wild for them too.

Just another quick shot to show how much Prel loves me.
The attachment kiz-prel.jpg is no longer available
When I get home she often will nuzzle up to me and give me cat-kisses. Sometimes it's only 'cause she wants fed, but oftentimes she does this even after she's been fed. <3 KF

This statement isn't exactly inaccurate...

But anyway yeah, I have about a 1" beard now. I decided to keep that permanent instead of shearing it each spring. KF

Do you grow it so you can look like your own evil twin? Because I try to do that too sometimes.

Don't be ridiculous. The existence of an "evil Kizyr" implies that there's a "good Kizyr" running around somewhere, and that's just silly.
Alunissage wrote:Ah, do you grow it/refrain from shaving as part of a religious observance?
Pretty much. I've had a beard for over a year now, but decided about 1-2 months ago to keep it with this in mind. KF

I want to rub that cat's belly, and give her some cat nip.

She is, unfortunately, largely immune to cat nip. Belly rubs though?

Not a trap.

The story of Prel!

Image
I found her horribly injured and on the cusp of death on New Years Day in 2007.

Image
The emergency vet was too far away, so I took her to a human ER because I'm a -Fatal Hopper- idiot. At the ER, I was told they couldn't help her because of rules, laws, and regulations which stipulate that they can only care for human patients. I convinced them to make an exception.

Image
Laws were broken, illegal things were done, money was spent and Prel was stabilized and survived until a local vet opened up. I rushed her in and got her fixed up properly. It cost almost $1k, my entire savings at the time. No regrets

Image
Surprising no one, cat found on street hit by car was 100% feral and hated me with every fiber of her being. Fast forward two months of hand feeding and coaxing to rehabilitate her, she's now a very sweet and affectionate cat.

Image
She kept me sane the years I lived alone. And, as you all know, she bonded quickly with Kizyr and loves him intensely.

Image
She showers us with affection and brings us her toys. See the red glove on the couch? That's one of her toys. She just brought it to me because she's a provider. :3 She is very good and we love her very much.

Hey BTW, other people can post pics of their cats or pets too.

Especially bunnies. Anyone have any pet bunnies? KF

I have a cat who is as soft as a bunny, but it's hard to convey that softness in pictures. Also, I think I can't attach pics larger than 256K and would need to resize most of them to reach that... but maybe some of my earlier pics would work. I suppose I should learn to use picture hosting and links.

So Prel (where did her name come from?) is older than ours. Our first five (not counting our very first cat who passed away in 2014) were all born in summer/fall 2007.

Okay, here are a few smaller pics.

This is our bunny boy, Aliquot. He is the softest cat I have ever touched, including our very soft longhair(s). Here he is with my husband, possibly the first day we met Quot as a two-month-old kitten. This is one of my favorite pictures of them both. It keeps showing up sideways though.

Our patriarch cat Rufus, our very first cat who we had for seven years before we lost him to kidney disease. He was a wonderful cat and I miss him. He also tended to look as if he would rip your face off if he wished, but actually he was very sweet.

CMY in an undignified moment. She is My Cat, although she likes my husband and other people too. But she really thinks she should be my only cat, and also that I am really and truly her mother and the other cats are just being mean when they refer to adoption.
