Could be good, could be really really bad. We shall see.

Not even the names? That'll be weird. (On second thought, maybe the North American names are the property of Game Arts.)

I'll have an update about it tonight on the site after work. Hoping to get confirmation on voice acting as well.

Honestly, I prefer it this way. If I wanted to revisit the old games, I could still play those. So far, each remake has been a retelling of sorts, so to me, it'll be nice to see a "retelling" of the localization as well since I imagine this'll innately have to be pretty close the SSSC based on the anime FMV reuse. Plus, I'm with the article's author on the silly nonsensical nature of the OP's lyrics.

Um, I thought that song was NOT Luna's song, but the opening song for the game?

Yes. The article author didn't seem to be very careful; the lyric was also misquoted.
And it's not like we haven't had a non-WD localization before.

eeeeh... the whole thing makes me nervous. The voice over cast even more so. I can't imagine new voice actors for these characters. Still, trying to keep a positive outlook on everything.

The article isn't even all that accurate. I'll have an update up later after my soccer games tonight explaining things better.

Well there goes Meyrod. *Sigh*. I can't imagine new voices for our Lunar characters.
On a positive note...does this mean there is something completely new added to Lunar? Meaning the reason for a new script is to incorporate a new plot twist?
Otherwise that seems like a pretty bad move in my mind, and seems kinda arrogant as it looks like they just want to have a stamp on the franchise. You know, to show the world they did something.

I wish I did! Actually the original picture was done by an artist named MelloLover on DeviantART. She was kind enough to let me use it for my avatar. If you're interested you can see the original picture here. :3Nobiyuki77 wrote:Just gotta say your avatar is awesome! You draw it?

I'm surprised a tartlet drew something that well.
So wait...who'll be doing the voices?

There is an added scenario or two from what I read...Aaron wrote:

And I don't think this is a bad idea. If they derive too much from WD's script people will criticize them for that too.

I'd bet that it comes down to money. Victor Ireland or whoever it is that owns the fully translated script probably wasn't willing to part with it for an amount of money XSEED was willing to pay.Aaron wrote:Otherwise that seems like a pretty bad move in my mind, and seems kinda arrogant as it looks like they just want to have a stamp on the franchise. First off, check the main page. I posted a news story about this that sheds quite a bit of light on it. I think some of you will like the clarification, even if it's going to cause some confusion considering the earlier news story from the other site.
Second, just wanted to respond that I think Vic and co. sold the translation back to GameArts. That's why UbiSoft could use the WD names (Quark, etc.). I don't know any specifics or how that worked out or anything though, so Vic or whoever may still hold some kind of rights. Dunno. My guess is that GameArts bought the rights off WD for the usage, or even just bought the translation straight out, then licensed out to Ubi. Same thing here probably. I should have asked if they plan to keep the same character names. I know Fidy is the correct translation, but I hope they keep Quark for that one.

Aww, I was hoping for voice actor names.GhaleonOne wrote:First off, check the main page. I posted a news story about
From comments Vic made a while back, it sounded like they didn't sell the entirety back, just some select pieces (as far as I know, which has not yet been clarified).GhaleonOne wrote:Second, just wanted to respond that I think Vic and co. sold the translation back to GameArts. EDIT: Unrelated, but there appears to be an issue with some of the smilies.

Also unrelated, but this has been driving me crazy, as I am a bit of an emoticon whore.DevNall wrote: EDIT: Unrelated, but there appears to be an issue with some of the smilies.

I noticed it too. I've been a bit lazy getting it figured out. Sorry.

Re: XSEED reportedly to not use any of the WD translation
They seem pretty interested in at least keeping the feel of the WD translation. That's a good sign.
Re: XSEED reportedly to not use any of the WD translation
usually when someone says there is something for everyone. You get a watered down experience...I hope this doesn't happen.
