Lunar on X-Box 360?!

This board is for general discussion of Lunar. Especially things such as Lunar merchandise, general discussions about the story that span more than one game, etc.

Lunar on X-Box 360?!

Post by ilovemyguitar »

Dude. Check out this article. Seriously.

http://www.xbox365.com/news.cgi?id=GGPrGruGii12090729

I know it's mostly just a crazy fanboy wish-list, but it makes mention of some rumor about Game Arts developing re-releases of Lunar RPGs for the 360.

Also, it's funny to see Final Fantasy IX listed as a "classic RPG," so you might want to check it out just for that.

Well it certainly is about time that the new wave of gaming has recognized some old-school goodies, but if one does not own an X-Box 360 it probably wouldn't be worth the money (not trying to belittle Lunar's invaluable worth! ) . You could probably (I might be wrong, I haven't researched it) buy them used from ebay or something for less.

Cool find though

Eh, they only wished for TSS and Eb ;-; The remakes get no love I tell ya, no love at all. ;)

Though, I still would want to have a bundle done with the games all redone to work on one consol, but they arn't a re-make, just updated to run on that particular game system. Of course, since WD is out of the game, my dream was shattered, but I still would like to see something like that. Call it: The Ultimate Lunar Collection - 1994 - 2006 (or whenever TSS was first released.)

To be honest, you could have done just the same yourself years ago and hold off the wait. Get yourself a HexBox or hack one yourself by modifying it to play games off its built in HDD and install a emulator on your Xbox and add in the Lunar.iso files and viola, any lunar from any system on your Hexbox :D

I'm not big on XBox so seeing re-releases on a system I will never buy is kinda depressing... I'd rather see it on the Playstation or Wii personally. (course the PS3 is something I won't be able to afford either... not for a long while anyway).

Well, you do have Microsoft's Virtual Console, and Nintendo Wii's classic thing (the name alludes me at the moment). Seeing the Lunar's on either is still a possibility. They did say Sega games would make Nintendo virtual console. Whether Sega CD is included, and whether GameArts would be interested remains to be seen, but it's a definate possibility.

I'd rather see it on the Wii I know, it just seems like a old school like Lunar would be better on the Wii. They are also the only likely ones who would consider keeping it 2d.

I would rather play all of the lunar's on the PSP myself, which is still a system I don't have. However... I DO have an xbox. Illegal or not, I DID PAY for it, with my hard earned cash. I should modify it and then send pictures and an e-mail to microsoft. .... No, not really. Still, how would you go about modifing an Xbox? O_O Wouldn't you have to have Xbox live or something?

It's actually quite easy if you know the tech specs of the xbox, since it's similar to a pc.

Also, I have a friend who modify his xbox so that it was even better than the xbox 360. But microsoft found out so he ended up getting in trouble.

I don't know how they found out and what kind of action Microsoft can take towards anyone who modified their system. I know they have the legal right to take action, or so they say, but what they would do is beyond me. (I guess they would sue for the system back, or sue for money, who knows.)

The reason why he got caught was because his friend sent a message to Microsoft directly. And so far, he only got a warning. At least, that's what I've been told.

Microsoft can't take any actions towards an end user seeing how once you purchace their product, its yours however you see fit as long as you're not redistrubiting their product modified or under your name. If you wanted to upgrade your Xbox, thats your choice. If you want to toss it over a building, thats your choice.

Companies can't do a thing once you make ownership of the product at the time of purchace. At the most void your warrenty and choose not to give you support.

I do hope so, as that would make my day. ^^

I bet that same question (subsitute 360 for playstation) was asked several years ago when Lunar was being remade for the Saturn :P .

Different situation though. Vic hinted at PS Lunar for months and kept the "cat in the bag" on that after the whole E3 fiasco with Sega. Some legal issues I'm sure, but by the time it was announced, it wasn't exactly a surprise. Lunar on the 360 would DEFINATELY be a surprise.

That isn't to say it wasn't weird seeing Lunar on the Playstation, and knowing it is now most known as a Playstation series. Lunar was always known as a Sega title in the early years. Even a hint of it going to Nintendo (and eventually Sony) was unheard of, even after the Saturn remakes were announced.

I'm curious...what, exactly, was this "fiasco?"

Depends on who you ask, but for the most part it went like this:

Working Designs had been given E3 booth space at Sega for their titles (this was a traditional thing, as all of their titles were for Sega machines). Sega pushed them to the far back, where nobody could find them. I don't remember all of the details, but it was the beginning of the Stolar/Vic war. What ensued though, after WD went multi-platform, was that Lunar fans though WD was dumping the Lunar series, as they were cancelling Lunar SSS for the Saturn. A massive petition rose up, called "Althena's Army" (Dragonmaster Lou can shed more light on this than I can if he's viewing, as he was a major player in that, and it was when I was a Lunar fandom newbie for the most part). Eventually, WD announced the port to the Playstation, which Vic had hinted at for months. A few Sega fans were pretty pissed off, but most were happy about the fact that they were still getting the remakes (which was what scared everyone into doing the petition). I could certainly understand the ones that bought a Saturn for Lunar and couldn't afford a Playstation as well, but sometimes it's unavoidable I guess.

The only major quarrel I had with some of the folks peeved off about Lunar going to the Playstation is most of them didn't think Lunar would sell any better on the PS as it did the Saturn. That proved very untrue. Had it been released on the Saturn, it wouldn't have been nearly as big as the remakes on the Playstation were.

Huh, well, hmmmm. See I wasn't aware that Vic hinted at it, I was just under the impression that they just suddenly switch from Saturn to Playstation after WD dropped Sega.

Though it is intresting, mentioning that Lunar was mainly a Sega system game until the Playstation. Just think, now it's been on with Sega, Sony, and Nintendo. If it makes it to the 360, then wow.

Still, I would rather just see the games made available for the PSP :P

I always dreamed of a PSP that could play old PS1 games.
