Come back later with the rest of the party. Kyle is the one who actually opens the red chests, so if he's not in the party you can't open them.
However, don't stress too much about the contents if you don't feel like coming back for it; it's not cool equipment or anything.

After you do the quest line for the thieves guild....

You can't get to Myght's Tower until long after doing the Thieves' Guild bit, so that's not the issue.
