Yeah, equipment breaking is kinda crummy in this game. The enemies level up with you, and are balanced in such a way that you must have up-to-date equipment to keep up.

The most commonly used way around this is to save constantly, after just about every battle. Then if something gets broken, just reload.

Think I was at levels 68-70 when I finished the import... I didn't start using cards until the last dungeon, though.

I always saved my game every chance I had. If an enemy broke some of my armor I always restarted from my last save. I'd shake my head and say "Nope" *click*.

Also the card are really awesome to use in battle if you don't mind using 'em up and fighting to get more. They make the fights so much easier. Once I started using the cards I was unstoppable.

I always try to finish a game at Lv99. I did a lot of training and got up to 97 before I got tired of training and decided to "check out" the end of the game. So I went and played through to the end without saving, just to see what I would be up against. I can tell you that it's pointless to level up that much, even for fun. The cards made every last boss fight as easy as pie, or even cupcakes for that matter!

After I beat the game, though, I was so dissatisfied I never returned to finish powering up my characters those last few levels. That was months ago.

Don't be discouraged by how irritating the game can be. Once you break its tactics against you, Dragon Song becomes quite easy. At least finish the game. You spent money on it. Get what you can from it.
