Re: Any big events anyone is going to?
My brother is coming to town next week and we're planning to go see a John Hodgman show. As I really enjoy hearing directly versus doing my research... what type of show would this be? Comedy. Hodgman is perhaps best known for his appearances as a correspondent on The Daily Show . He also played th...

Re: 20 years ago today.
I first heard of Eternal Blue (and Lunar for that matter) from Game Players magazine. Working Designs ran ads in several issues and I remember reading both a preview and a review. The review had kind of an odd tone. It was mostly positive, but the reviewer felt that the game was better than the orig...

I've played through Chrono Trigger several times at this point, most recently a couple of years ago. As time has passed, my appreciation for how brilliant a game it is has grown.Alunissage wrote:Can't blame you there. As I'm going through I'm thinking wow, this game really is as awesome as I remember.

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
I'm currently playing Papers, Please , an indie game I'd been meaning to get to for a while now. The premise of the game is that you're a border guard for a fictional country (based on Cold War era Eastern Europe). People come to you looking to enter the country and you must decide whether to let th...

Re: Obsessive Texthog
The massive amount of text and regularly changing NPC dialogue is a big part of what sets Lunar apart from other RPGs. Nothing else seems to measure up. It really is striking how often you can go back to places you've previously visited in Lunar and find new dialogue. I've had at least one obsessiv...

Re: What chat you recommend
The spam has been dealt with. The funny thing is that it seemed very ineffective - I had to read it to figure out that it was spam, but the posts were so uninteresting I didn't want to. I don't even remember what they were selling. I've actually seen worse. There was once a spammer who made a topic...

Re: What chat you recommend
I think my favorite part of this one is just how little effort was put into it. I mean, even the person who spammed ads for browser based MMOs made some tiny attempt to appear to be a regular user with one or two posts that weren't blatant advertising. But this person's MO seems to be quantity over ...

Re: Finally beat it.
I think I prefer the text one. A lot more opportunity for the person making it tear the game a new one. Don't get me wrong, I occasionally enjoy scathing commentary on things that deserve it , but in this case I'd be more interested in checking out how everything fits in with the Lunar story than i...

Re: The Trans-Pacific Partnership Treaty
Sorry, I didn't mean to give the impression that I was assigning blame or anything. Honestly I think I bear as much responsibility as anyone for the direction this thread started going. It's just that I'm not really interested in what is likely to become a heated political debate among several parti...

Re: The Trans-Pacific Partnership Treaty
I've been on the internet a long time. Long enough to see what direction this thread is heading and it's nowhere good. Not to mention it's veering into off topic territory. I'm going to bow out of this one.

Re: The Trans-Pacific Partnership Treaty
Do you honestly mean to imply that President Obama doesn't want to improve his country? That's the way it seems sometimes. Being a great public speaker is great at first but people begin to wise up when they don't see results and realize it's a bunch of talk. Well, I don't really want to get into a...

Re: The Trans-Pacific Partnership Treaty
Obama and his clowns have to be the worst government model in the history of the US. I mean, Hitler was a despicable man, but he meant to IMPROVE his country. These idiots are destroying the ground they stand on. I wouldn't like to argue about it, but I will support LunarRaptor if he wants to point...

Re: Finally beat it.
One alternative: these days I would investigate it through a Let's Play. Most times I love getting my hands on a game and figuring it out from the inside, but having done so already I view actually playing the game as an exercise of discipline I'd rather spend elsewhere. Btter to watch in half-hour...

Re: Finally beat it.
The main thing I wonder about it is if they had anyone at all that had experience with battle mechanic design. Dungeon design was pretty OK and the two battle modes could've worked, but I can't imagine how the two modes AND the random targeting (the biggest WTF I have ever seen in a game) AND flyin...

Re: GameArts (Grandia/II & Lunar) Collection
The Growlanser script is posted on GameFAQs. The translation itself was done by someone who is neither a native English speaker nor a native Japanese speaker, so I helped edit the translated text. Honestly if I had the time I'd go through and re-edit the whole thing for a number of reasons. For one,...

Re: We need more fans.
I think a hypothetical new Lunar game would have a careful balance to strike. It would make sense to update things and not just do a re-hash, but on the other hand if you stray too far from the old games, it won't really feel like a Lunar.

Me neither. As dated a reference as it is nowadays (those movies did not age well), I think it still works OK because it isn't an explicit reference. Even if you haven't seen Austin Powers it can still work as just some goofy sounding guy.Shiva Indis wrote:The Austin Powers ones didn't bother me...

Welcome back. Not only do I remember you from here, I even remember you from LEB. Crazy to think that forum shut down all the way back in 2005.
