Re: Recession 2.0

I'd tell you it might be a good idea to invest in gold, except that if you get enough of it the government has a penchant for stealing it. Oh and yeah, we're boned. The bailouts are going to hurt us more in the long run than those companies failing ever could. Constantly trying to manipulate the mar...

Re: Animals are beasts wihtout souls or sentience. Let's use 'em

My church was corrupt. My pastor was a horrible, bigoted man who used his position in the faith and society to teach his hatred to others. That sounds pretty par for the course. I'm always told about how when my grandmother and grandfather were going to move my aunt and my mother down to Florida th...

Re: illegal immigration

Even though I know this post is a troll, I have insomnia today, so, huzzah, opinions from me. In all seriousness what is so special about someone coming here "legally"? As has been previously pointed out the legal immigration process is currently designed to be lengthy, we're talking over ...

Re: Animals are beasts wihtout souls or sentience. Let's use 'em

I never did ask if Muslims believe in souls and an afterlife, I just always assumed they did since it's a basic premise of most faiths. In Christian Society, or, at least White Catholic Christian Society (Hereto refereed to as You're All Sinning So Give Us Money Corporation, or YASSGUM CORP) teache...

Re: Sega announces new Sonic 2D game... in HD!

Honestly, I have to be honest I'm not terribly thrilled about this one either. Sega just isn't the AAA software developer they used to be. They generally seem to come up with some great ideas but are unable to follow through or fall short, a track record that they keep repeating again and again, rel...

Re: Animals are beasts wihtout souls or sentience. Let's use 'em

In all seriousness, animals not having souls and therefore not going to heaven was something that I was honestly taught at youth group, CCD, and religious retreats in the Catholic church in my youth and teen years. That always bothered me.

Re: Gender roles (split from Japanese/English VAs)

Your first paragraph on the Jim Crow period indicates a lack of understanding of the history of civil rights during that period. The main factor was that blacks did not have access to the same services and markets as whites--that much we agree upon. But, this restriction was first put into place by...

Re: Commissioned Art by John Becaro

Basically, though it was more like a big file with the characters photographed from the front and in profile, any additional referance, and a text file talking about the character and changes I'd like made for things I didn't have reference for, then I told him what kind of image I was looking for. ...

Re: Gender roles (split from Japanese/English VAs)

As I've stated before, this exists in all markets. My mother works in a nursing home, the director acknowledges that it's easier to just bribe the state investigator than to pay the wages of the number of nurses and aides they're federally required to have working. So, that's what they do. This is ...

Re: Gender roles (split from Japanese/English VAs)

Okay, you need to back off. I have said nothing anywhere near that offensive to you, nothing that calls for such hostility. But, you should see some of the stuff I've edited out of my posts though. There were some zingers there, but I decided that maybe if I treated you with civility, you would tre...

Re: Gender roles (split from Japanese/English VAs)

Well then, kudos to you for going and actually reading the study Kizzy and clarifying that. I did notice the part about other violations in the summary article, and yes I did see it was quite high, but I hadn't commented on it because it wasn't terribly relevant to what we were talking about. You're...

Re: Gender roles (split from Japanese/English VAs)

government. crying yet? in all seriousness though, in my opinion, the easiest route to eventual equality is just making sure the kids grow up without the influence of racism/sexism/etc, and with the awareness of what exactly constitutes these things. the older generations (behold my sweeping genera...

Re: Gender roles (split from Japanese/English VAs)

Well if it makes you feel better I did read those two checklists. Though I have to say a lot of what is on that list isn't exactly what I would call privileges. Advantageous? Convenient? Helpful? Sure? But they don't really seem to fit what I would call privileges. But semantics aside what would be ...

Re: Nice knowing you, America.

Before I begin, I note you added a "Edit 2" onto one of your previous posts after I had already stated my response to you. I'll be addressing that later. Though I find the idea that you think you're actually represented in Washington to be a bit funny. And I find the idea that you think th...

Re: Nice knowing you, America.

If I may point out, why would the Republican party stand up to "authority"? They derive their power from the image of authority they have the same way the Democratic party does too. The job description of a politician is to reward your friends and punish your enemies. Politics as a profess...

Re: Gender roles (split from Japanese/English VAs)

Kizzy, While I understand your point, you're assuming that the author is using the word rate to mean that and not gross numbers. In common usage the sentence in question could mean both things. And contrary to what you are saying the article is not specific enough to designate if the amount of white...

Re: Commissioned Art by John Becaro

A standard commission by him is $35 per character. All the images you see are his standard commissions. He does good word. If had any complaint I would say that there were a few details of the characters I wanted that didn't come out in the images, small touches that weren't quite the way I was thin...

Re: Gender roles (split from Japanese/English VAs)

After reading this article, and it is an interesting article which confirmed something I already knew, I'd like to point out that the statement quoted isn't too useful because when you read it, they could be talking about the actual number of violations of minorities compared to white people and not...

Re: Gender roles (split from Japanese/English VAs)

You know I had a long thing to say about this, but I just can't quite seem to articulate it correctly. Suffice it to say it had to do with how different areas and neighborhoods tend to encourage certain cultures and value sets, how people with similar characteristics tend to group up together becaus...
