Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I've been slowly working through Persona 4 Golden. I tried the original over a decade ago, liked it, but stopped before the end. In this playthrough, I'm only a little more patient with the dungeons. I like the story; it's just 10+ levels of pregenerated dungeon wear on me. I also gave The Warlock o...

Re: Saturn translation [in progress!]

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the point in translating something that has been translated already for so long? I don't speak for the people working on this, but I think the purpose here is to adapt one of the other translations to work with the Saturn version of the game. The question is one I c...

Re: Tabletop gaming

Yes, I've been a tabletop roleplayer since college. A little bit of history: My first ever game was in the Buffy/Angel RPG system. We got together for a semester and did about 5 or 6 sessions. It was a healthy space for introducing roleplaying - a mixed-gender group, emphasis on roleplay over battle...

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I named mine Arcadia. I didn't even think of Vane!

So far I'm still firmly into collecting different kinds of trees. We'll see if I ever try more complex designs. :)

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I've been into Persona 5 Royal. I'm most of the way through the game at this point, and loving the new additions. I've taken over a thousand screenshots, just in case I want to write something about it. My partner and I have also been into Animal Crossing. It's an interesting test, sharing the same ...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

Just my two cents, I in no way see how a game company adapting their own game could be considered censorship. Calling that censorship ignores the longstanding practices of authors revising and editing their own work after publication, or adapting it for a new medium or audience. (Is Shakespeare's Fi...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I've started a third run-through of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I'm playing with Dimitri's team this time, as well as the (up to now current) DLC.

I'm waiting for Persona 5 Royal or FF7:R. I plan to play both, but I'm still conflicted about which to get first.

Storywise, no to two of them. Ghaleon maybe would be interesting, but Borgan is a slaver and Lunn brainwashes kids.

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I've been playing Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. My level is in the upper 40s and I'm on my way to Archades. With the 4x speed settings in this version, I've had time to do many of the side hunts and explore to my heart's content. (I'd played the original, but at the time I was dating someone wh...

Re: Star Wars IX (spoilers)

I liked it and had fun overall. I enjoyed the main plot - the macguffin of the Sith wayfinder, Rey learning more about herself and coming to terms with who she is, Poe and Finn each becoming more mature versions of themselves and Finn especially being able to speak to that ex-child soldier side to h...

Re: Japanese name/reference for Magic Tester?

^ In terms of visual reference, it reminds me of the reference to cathedral stained glass I found - something real that influences the design of an in-game element. But I can't think of any other bosses or designs that would qualify as a Japanese pop-cultural reference. (Not that I would be likely t...

Wow, good work so far!

I'm really looking forward to this translation. Since getting MSL several years ago, I've wanted an English translation to understand what is going on.

Re: Japanese name/reference for Magic Tester?

Fascinating! There are enough points of similarity that I wouldn't be surprised if that was an inspiration. That said, it works well because the concept of a wind-up drummer or little drummer boy is well-known. There is video of the moment from the Japanese version of Eternal Blue on YouTube: https:...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I, too, have rampaged a village. Right now I've mostly been playing Dragon Quest XI S. Even though I already played it last year, I find the game engrossing to replay. The faster battle speed option helps reduce the repetition. Meanwhile, they have added a few character-focused episodes to this vers...

Re: Least favorite Lunar 1 or Lunar 2 character

Given how the Phantom Sentry scolds Lucia in EB, I don't know if I'd see him as being "hers" so much as that they -- dragons, Lucia, Althena -- are all part of a team. Yeah, I think that's closer to their relationship. Team members can disagree with one another while being committed to si...

Re: Least favorite Lunar 1 or Lunar 2 character

^ Would it be plausible for the Star Dragon to be one of Lucia's dragons, rather than one of Althena's? Or, if the Star Dragon is acting not as a servant (as the Phantom Sentry) but as a keeper, for the Star Dragon to serve someone grander than both goddesses? The four dragons seem to serve the godd...

Re: Who is your favorite?

In Lunar: SSSC, I've long found Jessica a favorite. As I recall, early descriptions of her by NPCs vary widely, with Mel considering her a dear daughter but other people observing how much of a rebel she is, or how they don't remember her being at the temple to Althena. Then she is heavily alluded t...

Re: Jessica: strong female character or missed opportunity?

Alunissage I totally respect that, but would it be acceptable to point out that the whole point of the translations by Working Design at that time were simply to make the game culturally relatable to Americans? I mean, do you think that there weren't Americans in the 1990s who rolled their eyes at ...

Re: Grandia HD Collection on Nintendo Switch

After about 12 hours, I've noticed a few things in Grandia that may give pause if you have high expectations. 1. Occasionally music or sounds will glitch when transitioning to a battle or (especially) a boss. It self-corrects after a moment, and isn't an issue afterward. 2. Widescreen is mostly very...
