I wrote out the majority of them, but they're in Japanese. You are welcome to them, of course, but I'd need to find the files first.

Re: Late news, but a passing in the LUNAR family

Sad to hear about Rokuro Naya, I remember his work fondly from a few other shows as well. Trivia: he voiced Professor X in the Japanese dub of the 90s X-Men cartoon. As to the relative merits of Naya vs. Yanada, Ghaleon is a somewhat atypical character for Yanada, who often is cast as bruisers or mi...

Re: TSS audio in videos

I've never gotten good audio sync on streaming audio while emulating any Sega CD or Turbo CD game, no matter the emulator.

But perhaps some of you are less likely to resign yourself to it than I am.

Re: FF VIII (re)visited

The major complaints I make about FFVIII I can also direct at FFIX just as easily -- the interesting storytelling is all on the first disk and the rest of the game seems bland and unfocused; the late-game plot twists defy credulity -- but the subject matter and tone of FFIX suits my taste much bette...

Re: Coffee Thread

My grandparents got a Keurig for Christmas. I didn't have coffee from it, but I did have hot chocolate, and it was alright. What do you two identify as the weaknesses of a Keurig coffee machine? Is it process? Ingredients? Overall taste? Waste? The coffee packs are pre-ground, which definitely limi...

Re: FF VIII (re)visited

I find that the term "plot hole" is often used subjectively. I expect it to mean "I found the author's mistake and I could have told this story better", but the issue is often no more concrete than "I didn't like the direction the story went in". Then we queue the argue...

Re: Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a good anime.

A good theory, and one that has been considered,  but Homura has a different witch form seen in video game tie-ins that is apparently considered cannon. Bits and pieces of background info suggest that Walpurgis Night is a fusion of multiple witches.

Re: Coffee Thread

Hell yeah, a coffee topic! I guess I'd go with americano, black. Or a drip brew of a nice single-source from Central America - I've gotten fond of that sort of thing. I used to make french press all the time, but I stopped when I got a part time job in a coffee stand. I just buy from there instead. ...

Re: Is Popful Mail (Sega CD) overrated?

I imagine Sister Sonic would have been a good game -- and short of that certainly an interesting one. In retrospect it seems like a real shame. Curse you, Falcom fanboys! Every Popful Mail version is telling the same basic story and the level design tends to be similar, but each one has a ...

Re: Is Popful Mail (Sega CD) overrated?

I like the existential angle this thread is taking, though. Popful Mail, like all things with the potential to give people joy, is as meaningless as the rest of human endeavor. But this is no reason to despair. The only significance anything possesses is what we choose to give it. I enjoy ...

Re: Ghaleon's Sword

Thanks! That helps a bit. What about the image you see when you look at it in his inventory? In Lunar 2 wasn't Ghaleon's sword purple? Yes, if I'm not mistaken it's the sword on the top row 2nd from the left. Althena's Sword looks like some kind of flamberge in these icons too, so make of that what...

Re: Idea: Rerelease SSH on Steam for the PC

I'd like a port of the original SSSC too, but the original SSSC is in copyright purgatory and the iOS port is pretty damn buggy. Is there something more complicated to this copyright situation than "the license held by Working Designs reverted back to Game Arts, who can award licenses on those...

Oh, it's pretty typical. "The demo version ends here. Please enjoy the continuation in the final product." Then comes the line in English.

Video games begin and end with Dragon Quest. I'm playing DQIV right now, and it's like I've found the missing link. It's kind of mind boggling how many of the games I enjoyed back in the day take their queues from it.
