Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
I finished the Revolutionary Girl Utena Sega Saturn game. For a game based on an anime, it was really good, had a lot of feel good and funny moments. It even goes into messing-with-your-mind territory near the end, and gives some backstory for the Black Rose arc not seen in the anime. Creator Kunih...

Re: An anomaly in the Lunar series
Hey, some of that is familiar after going through those short stories Hosoe wrote around the same time those novelizations were published. Her take on Fake Althena is particularly sympathetic. I translated a couple of her shorts in 2009 -- how the time flies. http://lunarthreads.com/viewtopic.php?f=...

Re: Questions regarding the series
So what I'm gathering is that there is currently no known definitive answer, but it is most likely a combination of something legal and because the music of TSS overall doesn't match the tone of SSS. (Playing the second overworld theme from TSS over footage of SSS's world map definitely makes this ...

Re: Hajime Sato's Storyboards
Hey, I was doing some research on Sato recently! His work for Lunar is so imaginative and every so often I wonder what he's been up to. Following his career is a bit tricky; a lot of Japanese people have the name Hajime Sato. Sato worked on another Game Arts game, Alisia Dragoon, before working on L...

Agreed.Imperial Knight wrote:I generally think the concept of canon as what actually happened is overemphasized by fans of most fictional works.
But what if I told you that my Lunar 1 canon of choice is the novelizations, in which Kyle is a pirate captain with his own Dragonship?

I wish I had played this game sooner, and I wish there were more games like it. I read that old-timers in Japan think of it as the predecessor to Chrono Trigger, and it does have the same sort of thematic everything-and-the-kitchen-sink vibe.

Re: Blind witches
Yeah, the video compression was not up to the challenge that this particular cutscene posed. Most of the other videos are easier to make out than this, but as a stylistic choice, reducing facial features in situations like these to conserve detail is a pretty reasonable move for an animator. Conside...

Re: What is Canon?
That is a difficult question for this franchise, since the creators have shown little interest in endorsing remakes over originals or vise-versa. I suppose one could operate on the assumption that the creators favor the remakes. It's all canon -- especially when two versions contradict each other. D...

It's pretty wild to see the logos for all the firms that made SSS followed up by Sonic. I assume video that sharp is too big to use -- kind of a shame.

Re: Last Anime?
I watched the first 5-6 episodes of Fushigi Yuugi back when it was first being released in the US (...basically as many VHS tapes as I could get at the time). I really liked it back then. I rewatched the first episode with some of my friends a few weeks ago. I wanted to punch Miaka in the face so m...

To be clearer about my question of chronology: I know Ghaleon needs Alex to guide him to the dragon cave, apparently. But it seems that Ghaleon was already taking irrevocable action before meeting Alex, namely, freeing Xenobia and getting her to impersonate Lemia. Nash, too, was already on Caldor I...

I like to catch up with folks around here. I'm interested to know what's been on people's minds lately, whether Lunar-related or otherwise. Looking at your post history, I know we haven't heard much out of you lately. I suppose that's because the opinions of other posters have been rubbing you the w...

Re: What are your thoughts on Star Wars: The Last Jedi (WARNING! SPOILERS DISCUSSED HERE!)
Ah, this topic was inevitable wasn't it? My take is short. I haven't fully enjoyed previous Rian Johnson films I've seen and have the same criticism of this one: it's half a good movie. The light side/dark side plotline I liked pretty much without reservation. It felt like a nice new permutation on ...

Chapter 11 is the last one I finished, and it is the first drama on Vol. 3. So a pretty long way in.

Didn't the changes to the bromide and item placement have some changes to the text to go along with them? I guess that will require a few lines worth of translation from the original text.

Lunatic Festa Drama Transcriptions
At least two years ago I offered transcriptions of the Silver Star Story drama CDs to folks on the board for use in projects, or for general interest or whatnot. And then I never actually got them out there. Partly because I couldn't get the file format I saved them in to upload to the boards, but m...
