Re: Four heros

Regarding Noah being injured, I found the reference to that: it's in Lunar Legend. Thalia: “In his youth his father did go on an adventure to the Continent with Dyne. In the end, he was hurt on the way and returned to Burg.” Sadly, my LL notes, at least the ones that are typed up, are much barer tha...

Re: Four heros

Well, to be fair, a lot of that is transcription, and I'm setting up a better framework for that now. And it turns out that my notes go up to a little after Mel gets turned to stone. It just seems like every time I replay this game Lann is about where I pause, for some reason. I would guess that in ...

Re: Four heros

One more thing. Alex's mother says in SSS that "Your father went adventuring with Dragonmaster Dyne when he was your age." Somehow I had always assumed that Noah and Dyne were older than 15 (Alex's age in SSS; he's 17 in TSS). Though I suppose we don't know that Noah and Dyne are the same ...

Re: Four heros

I'm looking over the beginning of my notes on SSSC (a 236-page document and I think it only goes up to, like, Lann) and found the quote of Alex's father about going with Dyne: Noah: Alex…! You got that ring from the White Dragon Cave? I’m so proud that you were able to find it! I always knew you wou...

Re: Four heros

Hey, I found some scene transcriptions I did when I played Lunar Legend. Thought this might be of interest: Laike: Back then I chose, of my own free will, the path joining my destiny with Althena’s. Even though it meant I’d lose all my power, I chose to walk that path of hope, toward the future that...

Re: Vile tribe

Heh. Yeah. I think I'd respond a little differently now, but maybe not. I had forgotten my speculation that Ghaleon's transformation could have been related to the "demigod" that the Four Heroes vanquished per TSS. I vaguely recall Vic saying that Ghaleon was an elf, which is maybe where y...

Re: Vile tribe

It may not be clear from that, but I've never been as "into" Ghaleon as most fans, it seems. I may be the only one who was seriously annoyed at his appearance in EB, because it just didn't make much sense other than a bit of "let's put the 'cool' evil guy in" fanservice. I though...

Re: Vile tribe

This is going to sound like a total cop-out, I know, but honestly? I never cared what race Ghaleon was when I'd only played TSS and didn't know of any other Lunar stuff at all. There were clearly at least three races, plus fairies and dragons, why not more? The only backstory in the game wasn't suff...

Re: Vile tribe

"Mazoku" is a deliciously ambiguous word common to fantasy media in Japan. The "ma" on its own may literally mean "demon" or "evil" (hence the "Vile" of Vile Tribe), so the etymology of words for "magic" in Japanese such as "mahou&quo...

Re: Vile tribe

What do you suppose "a terrible abuse of Black Magic" means? Black Magic is loosely defined in the game as meaning destructive magic that can harm people ... So... did Ignatius use magic to intimidate the people in the Frontier, or brainwash them, or...? The distinction seems to be irrele...

Re: Four heros

Yeah, I had hoped I'd be able to find a way to get the Japanese text out of the game files (I've been checking Artemio's English text dump against the files because some lines were missed), but no dice. If I ever play to that point in Japanese I'll screenshot it...but I don't know when that is likel...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

Waiting impatiently for the Valkyria Chronicles 4 DLC, I found that I hadn't gotten every single thing in the playthrough I did of Valkyria 1 a couple years ago, so I played a little of that. More different from 4 than I remembered. But aha! The expert level skirmishes are now available. Now I gotta...

Re: Who is your favorite?

Heh, I think more than once there was dialogue like this: Flora: All right, to get to [our next destination] we need to do this/go here first. Jian or Gabryel: Wow! How did you know that??? Flora: I asked someone! Maybe not so surprising given how bad Jian is at asking anyone for help at any time. A...

Re: Vile tribe

You know, I thought "inherit the wind" (which I eventually extracted from Google Translate) sounded familiar, but I didn't remember where from. What do you suppose "a terrible abuse of Black Magic" means? Black Magic is loosely defined in the game as meaning destructive magic tha...

Re: Vile tribe

Both songs -- they managed to grab phrases from both TSS's opening song and SSSC's. It's kind of neat, subtly emphasizing that this is a prequel, and the issue raised in this story, of Althena's relationship to humans and whether they need guidance, will come up again. Yet another thing that the ga...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I finished Valkyria Chronicles 4 very thoroughly, including all available DLC (two more to come in November). Even more emotionally wrenching than 1 and 2. Not sure what I'll play next. I have plenty of unfinished games...

Re: Vile tribe

You know for all the crap we give DS it does add to the lore and help answer a few questions. Even if it makes us ask a few It really does. I was feeling all sorts of pangs of regret and frustration when reviewing the text last night, because it seems like there's a LOT there, crudely translated an...

Re: Vile tribe

Hey, Shinto-Cetra, I realized I was snippier than I intended to be there, sorry. I still disagree regarding how the Vile Tribe is portrayed in TSS, and I especially disagree with using misc animes to make a point about an entirely unrelated game, but I was a bit brusque about it. I don't know that I...

Re: Vile tribe

Eh, "demonic transformation ability" seems a lot more like a gameplay thing to me. Final boss, after all. And having camaraderie doesn't mean that the monsters are less monstrous. They're unambiguously evil in TSS, and the confinement is clearly because they did something to require it, no...
