Re: Women's March on Washington.

I know I'm a total noob, but if there's any interest in a Lunar Threads meetup in a march in DC, I'd love to come down and make some noise with you guys. I don't think we've ever had a president who's so easily tweaked by protests, which makes it even more fun and powerful to get out and make your v...

Future Funk

Any fans of the genre here? If you're not familiar, it's a fun, upbeat sound created by sampling and remixing funk music, often pulling in some interesting source material (Japanese funk, '80s movies, etc). Lots of anime featured in videos and album art as well. It's an offshoot of vaporwave, which ...

Nice find! I'm tempted to set up an account -- 600 yen isn't gonna break the bank either.

Re: Long-time Lunarer, first-time posterer

I daresay that last phrase is probably a bit obsolete for you. :) Gah, you're right! Somehow that never even occurred to me. I must be in denial :D I do have a minor fond association with Temple, not because of anything concrete about it but because when I was in the marching band at UC Berkeley, o...

Re: Long-time Lunarer, first-time posterer

Yup, that’s me. Though it’s not both games at once. XD Those time estimates are for SSSC and EBC on the playstation. SSSC I can do in 2 days tops. That time frame also includes me taking breaks during the days to eat and maybe be a little social. EBC I can do in 3 days. My last English play through...

Re: Long-time Lunarer, first-time posterer

After Lunar 2 I got more into the RPG genre with other games like Lunar Silver Star Story, Chrono Cross, Legend of the Dragoon, and Star Ocean Second Story – to name a few. ^_^ It’s still my favorite genre, but a lot of the newer games just don’t do much for me lately. Like I like them, but I rarel...

Re: Long-time Lunarer, first-time posterer

It seems like, for a lot of folks here, the first one you play tends to stay your favorite. I think that says a lot about the quality of the series--every entry is so good, even across platforms, that nobody's throwing any particular version under the bus (except Dragon Song of course!). I totally f...

Re: Long-time Lunarer, first-time posterer

Still reading it, btw. About... 40-ish pages from the end. Definitely let me know what you think of the end when you get there. I have to admit, I had a rocky start with NW (wasn't sure about Watanabe as a character), but the ending has really stuck with me. That said, if you want a standalone book...

Re: Long-time Lunarer, first-time posterer

I've started off on the wrong foot with some authors and just never picked them up again, even when I should know better, so I really appreciate that. Awesome that his robot novels and the Foundation books converge; I can't imagine how hard it would be to connect separate series like that, unless it...

Re: Long-time Lunarer, first-time posterer

Awesome that they ended up having both volumes, even (especially?) if not at the same time. I'd have been worried that I'd never find Volume 2 at all, never mind at the same bookstore. If I'm ever in Richmond, I'm making a point of checking them out. Because of my slow reading speed, I've only just ...

Re: Long-time Lunarer, first-time posterer

Thanks for the welcome, Kizyr! And I also really recommend tracking down the Sega CD versions if you can -- with the right computer and software you can also emulate them pretty well without the Sega CD (though... my current Win8 laptop has been having issues with that). I was actually cruising eBay...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I loved Valkyria Chronicles, but if I had one gripe, that would be it. Instead of having the freedom to explore different ways to accomplish a mission, it sometimes felt like you were on rails with that turn limit. Maybe it was too easy without it? I've been playing Lunar iOS and Hitogata Happa, a b...

Re: Long-time Lunarer, first-time posterer

Seriously, Ann Leckie sounds awesome! My copy was a Christmas present too. I remember my mom commenting on Luna/Althena's getup on the box; she said, "Well, I guess you're old enough for this kind of thing." Djinn, I know what you mean -- there's a lot to be said for a big, bustling commun...

Re: Long-time Lunarer, first-time posterer

I never thought to get the SegaCD discs and emulate, that's a great idea! I may carve out some funds from my next paycheck and grab one, or both. I'd love to see how they differ from the PSX versions I'm more familiar with. I've been all over the map in terms of reading. I really love sci-fi, Britis...
