Re: Playing Through the Saturn Version for the First Time

Well this was super long in updating. I had a pretty rough early 2022. Caught COVID finally which was fun. Also made a huge lifestyle change by selling my home to take advantage of the housing market and moving my family into a much smaller one (~1,500 sq ft; roughly half the size as previously). I ...

Re: Playing Through the Saturn Version for the First Time

Yep that's about the only reason I could think program-wise that a portrait switch would be moved to a referenced index that's different than the Japanese version; for a glaring narrative change that was just easier to point at the value rather than change line for line.

Re: Douga Sketches Used in the Manuals

Indeed they are. The numbers reference color 'index' identifiers which is a generic identifier to ensure color consistencies. A lot of animation in the cel era utilized very consistent palettes across various productions. Using the index numbers for a color would have ensured consistency even if oth...

Douga Sketches Used in the Manuals

I've been digging through some of my old files that I have saved and I wanted to show these off. I try to save all kinds of LUNAR things that catch my eye that I stumble across. A decade ago, these douga sketches showed up on eBay and - now in hindsight, very stupidly - I did not attempt to purchase...

Re: More Emotional Than Lunar's Boat Song

It is real.

Recently - as in the last handful of years - fans at WWE events have been making signs that reference various RPGs/JRPGs. Most of the time it's the run of the mills things (ex: "Nintendo localize Mother 3" sort of stuff). This is the first time I've seen anything LUNAR.

Re: Playing Through the Saturn Version for the First Time

Interesting. I would make assumptions as to why WD would make such a change but I wonder if it's because a script point differed at some point drastically in localization compared to the original? I don't know SSS's script inside out, but I'd guess Alunissage would probably be aware of any glaring p...

More Emotional Than Lunar's Boat Song

If there's one thing I enjoy is the real-life time-line of WWE fans arguing back and forth over RPG/JRPG fandom, and to see anything-LUNAR pop up gives me a smile.

Re: Playing Through the Saturn Version for the First Time

Yeah I should have clarified in my initial post but both Ghaleon's and Luna's portraits in the spire dialogue scene corrupted. I just happened to take a quick pic with what was up (and honestly - thinking about it - I probably should have taken video). Ghaleon's stood out as when he does the fake 'h...

Re: Atelier Series

I've only played a handful of them. I didn't start hardcore until the PS3 era. I enjoyed Ryza quite a bit despite the prevalent thicc-thigh memes, and I'm certain Gust themselves were a bit shocked how popular Ryza was. About the only thing that was a real downer for me was the astronomical amount o...

Re: Playing Through the Saturn Version for the First Time

I held off on posting this yesterday as I needed to get the pics off my phone, but when I was in the Crystal Spire I came across a corruption. When I got to the top prior to the fight with the Ultragoyles I had something strange happen. When Ghaleon spoke his picture sprite was corrupted into what a...

Re: Playing Through the Saturn Version for the First Time

I'm past the *big reveal* point on the return to Caldor Isle and have moved onto Marius Zone. I don't know why I would try to hide it as I'm fairly certain everyone knows what happens. I thought that I could really hold out on this "having-no-character-die" -thing, but the first to bite it...

Re: Playing Through the Saturn Version for the First Time

Where you immediately notice the difficulty difference early is with Luna. Her sling is somewhat supplementary in attacks to Alex and Ramus early on in the WD PS1 port. You're also likely keeping her towards the back to avoid her taking direct damage as with the attack increases she's very easy to h...

Playing Through the Saturn Version for the First Time

There are a multitude of threads and posts on the differences between the various LUNAR titles and I wanted to share some of my experiences with the Saturn version of Silver Star Story. As people are probably aware, the Saturn version of the remakes was actually the original games for 32 bit console...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I tried playing the Nelke Atelier game and just could not get into it. The premise with the town-building aspect was incredibly appealing, but I found the battle system and overall presentation just a real bore. The game really needed some more subsistence outside of what you get with mostly menu-dr...

Re: First playthrough

It's cool to see someone play through LUNAR for the first time. I tried to relate it to the order of the dragons we met. White dragon = white moon or white star? Red dragon = red sun? Blue Dragon = blue planet? Neptune is blue, it has rings. Black dragon = ......moon? because it's night time? None o...
